Cork Units, a pioneering Portuguese design brand, showcased its latest sustainable cork creations at Ambiente 2025. Founded in 2019 by cousins Mariana Alves and Joana Silva, Cork Units continued its family's legacy in the cork industry, transforming natural cork into innovative and sustainable products for contemporary living.
At Ambiente 2025, Cork Units unveiled an exclusive new collaboration with Manex Bilbao Studio. This collection featured a refined set of wine accessories that blended artistic expression with functional design. Additionally, the brand introduced three new pieces in the Cork Units Collection: a table, a stool, and a frappé, reinforcing its commitment to high-quality craftsmanship and sustainable design.
Cork Units had always emphasised the beauty and versatility of cork, aligning its mission with sustainability, timeless design, and circular economy principles. 'Our aim was to be a conscious design brand, reinventing cork as a premium and sustainable material for homes, offices, and hotels. We continuously invested in new processes and high-quality design to achieve the best results,' said Mariana Alves, Creative Director of Cork Units.
In addition to its product launch, Cork Units hosted an engaging event titled From Forest to Finish: Our Cork Production Process on February 8, 2025. The presentation provided visitors with an immersive experience, tracing the journey of cork from the forest to its final transformation into contemporary design pieces. Attendees had the opportunity to explore a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship and sustainable practices that defined Cork Units' production process.
Over the years, Cork Units had built an impressive portfolio, offering homeware, furniture, bespoke designs, and commercial projects for the HoReCa sector, offices, and retail spaces. The brand had also been recognised for its collaborations with renowned designers, including Studio Niruk, João Xará, and Manex Bilbao Studio, further expanding its reach in the international design community.
Cork Units' dedication to sustainability had earned it a place in leading design publications such as Forbes Portugal, Schöner Wohnen Magazin, Lux Deco, and Marketeer. Its products had also been exhibited at major design events, including Salone Satellite in Milan and Design Post Köln in Germany.
Joana Silva, Sales Director of Cork Units, expressed enthusiasm for the brand's participation at Ambiente 2025: 'This event was an incredible opportunity to showcase the endless possibilities of cork as a sustainable and premium material. We were thrilled to introduce our new collections to an international audience that values innovation, design, and environmental responsibility.'
