French furniture store closing down after fifty years

A well-known furniture and decoration store in France is set to close permanently on Saturday, 31 May, after more than fifty years in business. The store, located in Divatte-sur-Loire, is holding a clearance sale to liquidate its remaining stock.

Rive Gauche Décor was founded by the Douineau family. The store has been a significant presence in the local community. Initially selling rattan and wicker furniture, it evolved to become a well-regarded brand in designer home furnishings. Current manager Valérie Colaisseau, who took over in 2019, stated that she was 'driven by the desire to perpetuate this institution and preserve its DNA.'

The decision to close follows economic struggles in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. Colaisseau admitted that the post-Covid crisis, combined with changing consumer habits, negatively impacted sales. She explained that after six years of running the business, she opted for an amicable liquidation to settle supplier payments before shutting down.

The store, which spans 600 m², is offering discounts on a range of furniture and home accessories, including chairs, tables, sofas, lighting, and decorative objects.

Rive Gauche Décor is open from Tuesday to Saturday and will cease operations at the end of May.
