The German Design Award, conferred by the German Design Council, is one of the most distinguished international recognitions, celebrating design innovation and competitiveness with a focus on sustainable economic transformation. This achievement reinforces Mara's commitment to merging functionality and style through sustainable and avant-garde solutions.
At the awards ceremony held on 7 February in Frankfurt, Typo won the Gold award in the "Excellent Product Design Furniture" category, Foil was recognised in the "Excellent Product Design Office Furniture" category, and Icon High-Back received the award for "Excellent Product Design Furniture". These three pieces, created in collaboration with renowned international designers, perfectly balance professional and domestic spaces, reflecting Mara's pursuit of versatility and innovation.
Typo chair: a timeless reinterpretation
Designed by AMDL Circle, founded by architect Michele De Lucchi, Typo redefines the traditional office chair with a contemporary edge, drawing on Mara's expertise in metalworking. The jury praised its 'successful combination of wood and metal, which is both functional and aesthetically pleasing', highlighting its refined construction. The chair's square-section steel tube is elegantly bent to support the wooden seat and backrest, delivering 'timeless elegance, an original reinterpretation of classic design'.
A Limited Edition Arcobaleno, made from Alpi wood designed by Konstantin Grcic, was showcased at the German Design Award, inspiring further iterations such as an upholstered version, a wooden and upholstered stool, and a range of indoor and outdoor tables.
Foil table: minimalist and functional
Designed by Christophe Pillet, the Foil table captivated the jury with its 'minimalist aesthetic and functional sleekness'. This table/desk reimagines the metal table archetype with ultra-thin proportions, while an added perimetral section cleverly conceals mechanisms and accessories, ensuring a clean, uncluttered workspace. The jury commended the design for its ability to 'foster an undisturbed working environment, highlighting a clear focus on the basic needs of the office'.
Foil is available in fixed and sliding-top versions, along with Bench and Workstation variants, and features optional sound-absorbing partition panels.
Icon High-Back: comfort and sophistication
Part of Marcello Ziliani's Icon collection, the Icon High-Back armchair expands on the brand's highly versatile seating range, originally introduced in 2023. Designed for both home and office environments, the chair features a polypropylene structure combined with an upholstered high-back and seat cushion, enhancing comfort and aesthetics.
The jury recognised the 'harmonious colour combination of the structure and the upholstery, creating a balanced design, fostering comfort when seated for long periods both in the office and at home'.
This recognition at the German Design Award 2025 reaffirms Mara's position as a leader in contemporary furniture design, continuing its commitment to innovative, high-quality, and sustainable solutions for modern living and working spaces.
