Secto Design publishes first Environmental Product Declarations

Secto Design has announced the publication of its first Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for six pendant lamps: Octo 4240, Octo Small 4241, Secto 4200, Secto 4201, Victo 4250, and Puncto 4203. This initiative follows a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted for all products, a key sustainability target set in 2023.

The company has chosen to report its LCA results through EPDs to provide transparent, comparable, and third-party-verified data on the environmental performance of its products throughout their lifecycle. The EPD format allows architects, designers, and professionals to make informed decisions by assessing the environmental impact of different products.

The EPDs are available for download in PDF format from the International EPD System's EPD library. Additional EPDs for other lamp models are expected to be published in the coming months.

Each EPD includes the product's carbon footprint, expressed through the Environmental Impact Indicator Total Global Warming Potential (GWP-total), with greenhouse gas emissions measured in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent (kgCO₂e) for each lifecycle stage. The carbon footprint of the production stage (cradle to gate) is low, and in some cases negative, due to carbon bound in the wood. However, when considering the entire lifecycle ("cradle to grave"), energy consumption during use accounts for over 90% of the CO2 footprint over a 15-year period and nearly 60,000 hours of operation.

The development of EPDs reflects Secto Design's commitment to sustainability and transparency, providing clients with the necessary data to make environmentally responsible choices.
