A new study by 3D Cloud and Provoke Insights has found that hybrid shopping—a combination of online and in-store purchases—is now the most common way consumers buy furniture. The 2025 3D Cloud Furniture Shopping Trends Study revealed that 45% of shoppers use both online and in-store channels, while online-only shopping has increased by 26%, particularly among female consumers. Meanwhile, traditional in-store-only shopping has declined.

Carly Fink, president and head of research at Provoke Insights, stated that the shift highlights the increasing reliance on digital experiences. 'Consumers want the best of both worlds: the convenience of online shopping and the tactile confidence of in-store visits.'
Key findings from the study include:
- 62% of Millennials prefer a hybrid shopping approach.
- 46% of shoppers research online before making an in-store purchase.
- 58% of consumers want improved visualisation tools when shopping in-store.
- 86% of shoppers are satisfied with traditional photos or 3D images, as long as they accurately represent products.
The study also indicates a growing interest in AI-driven tools for product visualisation and decision-making. However, retailers continue to face challenges in implementing these technologies effectively.
Beck Besecker, CEO and co-founder of 3D Cloud, emphasised the importance of an evolving retail model. 'The future of furniture shopping is dynamic, immersive, and full of opportunity. Retailers who embrace a hybrid model and invest in intuitive technology will be the ones who win.'
