John Lewis Partnership announces £114 million investment in partner pay

The John Lewis Partnership (JLP) has announced a £114 million investment in pay for its 65,000 Partners across the business this year. This increase follows a £116 million rise in 2024, bringing the total pay investment over two years to £230 million.

Seventy-seven per cent (£88 million) of this year's investment is voluntary, exceeding the requirements of the National Minimum Wage. From 1 April, the minimum hourly rate for Partners outside London will rise from £11.55 to £12.40, while those within the M25 will see an increase from £12.89 to £13.85. Over the past three years, the Partnership has increased total pay by £295 million, reflecting a 25% rise in shop Partners' hourly rates.

For those taking on specialist roles or enhanced skills within JLP shops, hourly rates will increase to £13.39 and up to £14.96 within the M25. Additionally, Partners who make an 'exceptional' contribution to the business will receive an extra 2% increase, bringing their total potential pay rise to 9.4%.

Alongside the pay increase, JLP continues to offer a range of benefits, including:

  • 25% discount at John Lewis and 20% at Waitrose
  • A pension scheme with up to 12% employer contributions
  • Life assurance of up to four times annual pay
  • Equal parenthood leave
  • A generous annual holiday allowance
  • Wellbeing support
  • Subsidised holidays at Partnership hotels
  • A £60 annual contribution towards event tickets
  • A £250 allowance for learning new skills or exploring interests

Jo Rackham, Interim Executive Director, People, stated: 'Our Partners are co-owners of our business and their service to our customers is what sets us apart, so we have chosen to make another very significant investment in Partner pay this year. This signals our continued commitment to our Partners' pay, taking our total investment over the last three years to £295 million.'
