The British government has announced the five architectural firms shortlisted to design a memorial honouring Queen Elizabeth II in St. James's Park, London.

The selection was made by the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee, a group of eight public figures established in 2023 to commemorate the monarch's "lifetime service" and create "a space for pause and reflection". The memorial will be located near Buckingham Palace at Marlborough Gate and will incorporate the Blue Bridge.

The shortlisted firms are Foster + Partners, Heatherwick Studio, J&L Gibbons, Tom Stuart-Smith with Jamie Fobert Architects, and WilkinsonEyre. Each team was chosen based on their past work and expertise relevant to the project.

Foster + Partners is working with artist Yinka Shonibare and landscape architect Michel Desvigne Paysagiste. Heatherwick Studio's team includes sculptor Halima Cassell, landscape architect MRG Studio, and engineers Webb Yates and Arup. J&L Gibbons leads a team featuring set designer Michael Levine, William Matthews Associates, and Structure Workshop. Tom Stuart-Smith and Jamie Fobert Architects are collaborating with artist Adam Lowe of Factum Arte and Structure Workshop. WilkinsonEyre's team includes artists Lisa Vandy and Fiona Clark, garden designer Andy Sturgeon, and engineers Atelier One and Hilson Moran.

The finalists will present their designs in spring 2025, with the winning team announced by summer. The final design will be revealed in April 2026, near what would have been Queen Elizabeth's 100th birthday.
