Portuguese furniture exports surpass two billion euros despite decline

Portuguese furniture exports exceeded €2.1 billion in 2024 for the second consecutive year, despite a 4% decline compared to the previous year, according to the Portuguese Association of Furniture and Related Industries (APIMA).

France remained the leading market with a 32% share, followed by Spain (26%) and Germany (7%). Sales to the United States and the United Kingdom grew to 6% and 5%, respectively. The most significant increase was recorded in Switzerland, where exports rose by 21.95%, while the Netherlands saw a modest 2% growth.

APIMA noted that 2024 was a challenging year due to inflation, disruptions in global logistics, and reduced consumer demand. The association's president, Joaquim Carneiro, stated that the sector faced 'enormous instability and unpredictability'. He emphasised that 'international promotion anchored in fairs, with particular emphasis on emerging markets, was fundamental for us to be able to leverage new opportunities'.

Despite the sector's concerns about economic conditions, surpassing the two-billion-euro mark for a second time highlights the resilience of Portuguese furniture exports.
