After the success of the Spun chair, Magis has teamed up again with Thomas Heatherwick to bring you an innovative collection that turns recycled plastic inside out.
Pushing the boundaries of recycled plastic
After months of experiments on the rotational-moulding process with a mixture of two forms of recycled polyethylene, Magis noticed that the outside of the material appeared quite conventional, but if cut open, it revealed a surprising, irregular dotted surface.
So Thomas Heatherwick was asked: How can this hidden beauty be revealed? That's how the In-Side collection came to life. A sofa, an armchair and a low table that showcase the inner beauty of recycled polyethylene.
How it's made
First, the two types of polyethylene are processed into a single piece with the rotational-moulding technology.
Then, the two sides are cut away and inverted, so that the colourful part is showing. Finally, the sides are secured to the core.
'The idea behind this new collection is to use waste materials and reveal their inner beauty in an unexpected way.' - Thomas Heatherwick
Outdoor spaces with character
In-Side offers unconventional pieces perfect for colourful spaces that foster connections. The enveloping armchair and sofa and the bridge-shaped low table come in three colour options. Each item is designed to allow rainwater to drain down, making the collection suitable for gardens, patios, terraces and more outdoor spaces.
