Duravit's Balcoon bathroom collection, designed by Patricia Urquiola, is an intriguing mix of modernity and timeless elegance. The design is minimalist yet distinct, with a visual identity. Combining premium features with high-quality finishes, the collection introduces a whole new standard in the mid-range segment. In this way, Patricia Urquiola makes her iconic design accessible to a wider audience.
The collection is characterised by simple geometric shapes and clean lines, creating an understated yet enduring aesthetic. At the same time, it exudes warmth and accessibility. "The design plays with height differences and the layering of materials and textures, which was also the inspiration for the name Balcoon," explains Patricia Urquiola.
Shape, colour and material beyond fleeting trends
The set-up washbasins act as sculptural eye-catchers and go beyond their functional role. Urquiola gave the washbasins an architectural look by placing round and oval bowls on a square base. This interplay of levels runs like a thread throughout the collection - from the wall sinks and toilets to the furniture and baths.
For the ceramic objects, Patricia Urquiola designed a warm terracotta colour, Clay Terra Matt, which emphasises the tactile and material properties of the ceramics. "This colour makes the ceramics more authentic, as if they were handmade," Urquiola says.
The bathroom furniture features a natural, nature-inspired colour palette with shades ranging from white and earthy browns to anthracite. Playful accents are created by the textured surfaces. As an additional option, mineral sink tops are available in three shades, adding extra depth and authenticity to the design.
Functional and aesthetic furniture solutions
The console with integrated back panel is a striking detail in the Balcoon series washbasin arrangements. This element forms a harmonious whole with the underlying drawers and open shelves, some of which are arranged asymmetrically for a visually dynamic effect. The contrast in colours enhances this tension.
Matt, monochrome decors in natural tones have been chosen for the surfaces as the standard option for the mid-range. "The furniture can be further upgraded with consoles in luxurious terrazzo look and fluted fronts," says Patricia Urquiola.
Design meets functionality and durability
The built-in baths in the series are made of acrylic and further play on the theme of layering. The baths have a raised oval rim on a seamless acrylic sheet, which is not only aesthetically pleasing but also easy to clean. The ergonomic interior invites ultimate relaxing bathing.
Matching taps for basins, bidets, showers and baths complete the collection. The cylindrical handles transition into gently curved shapes and have a pleasant feel. Available in chrome, matt black and brushed stainless steel, they perfectly complement the harmonious colour palette of the range. In addition, the taps include innovative features such as Fresh Start and Minus Flow, which save water and energy.
