The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has expanded its recall of a series of dressers due to potential tip-over and entrapment risks. The affected units have been deemed unstable if not anchored to a wall, posing 'serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in injuries or death to children.'
The recall now includes 28,590 units of the 10-drawer Gikpal dresser, which were sold online by Walmart between September 2023 and January 2025 for approximately $80 each. The dressers, manufactured in China, fail to meet the performance and labelling requirements of the STURDY Act. The specific model affected is HI1318_13, sold in rustic brown with black handles and black sides and back. The units measure approximately 11.8 inches wide, 38.9 inches long, and 39.4 inches tall, weighing about 36 pounds. The model number, along with "Fabric Dresser" and "Made in China," is printed on the packaging.
Consumers are advised to stop using the dressers immediately unless they are properly secured to a wall. The seller and distributor are contacting all known buyers directly to offer a refund.
This follows an initial recall in January, which involved 800 units of a similar 12-drawer Gikpal dresser with model numbers HI1437_13, HI1437_14, and HI1437_02, also due to instability concerns.
