Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has submitted plans to establish a new concept store in York. The proposed IKEA Plan and Order Point (POP) store would be located on Stirling Road at Clifton Moor, potentially occupying the former JYSK unit, which closed in July last year following the expiry of its lease.
A planning application confirms that IKEA has already introduced the POP format in Preston, Aintree, and Stockport. The store concept is designed for customers seeking assistance with planning and purchasing fitted kitchen and bedroom furniture.
According to IKEA, "A POP is a new trading concept" that provides dedicated spaces for consultations with sales representatives. The store will also feature material samples, colour swatches, and finish displays to aid customers in their selections. Once a kitchen or bedroom design is finalised, customers will complete their purchase, with products delivered directly to their homes.
The move aligns with IKEA's ongoing expansion strategy, focusing on smaller, service-oriented retail formats.
