Homeware on High Street sales return to growth after three week decline

Homeware sales on the high street have rebounded. This brings an end to a three-week decline, according to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker. Total like-for-like (LFL) sales increased by 4.18% for the week ending 16 March 2025.

Homeware LFL sales rose by 2.21% from a low base of -11.98% recorded in the same week last year, marking the eighth positive result for the category since the beginning of 2025. Store homeware sales improved by 3.75%, recovering from a -10.10% decline in 2024, representing the sixth positive result for the year.

Total store LFL sales increased by 5.61% from -12.67% in the same week last year. Non-store LFL sales also grew by 3.35%, offsetting a previous decline of -1.83%.

BDO stated that 'both store and non-store results grew this week, boosting total LFL sales, and resulting in the first positive week following two consecutive poor outcomes.' Fashion led sales growth, likely driven by demand for spring clothing.

Overall footfall increased by 2.2%, with retail parks seeing the highest rise at 4.0%, followed by shopping centres at 3.7%, while high street footfall grew modestly by 0.6%. The UK experienced cold weather with wintry showers, contrasting with mixed conditions in the same week last year.
