A prominent UK office furniture designer has been acquired by Japan's largest manufacturer in a move aimed at expanding global market presence. The acquisition aligns with the Japanese company's strategy to strengthen its international business by leveraging the UK brand's strong presence in Europe and North America.
Boss Design, founded in 1983 in the UK and later expanding to North America in 2014, has grown from a small workshop in the West Midlands into a globally respected brand. It specialises in lounge seating, pods, and office furniture solutions. Founder Brian Murray will continue to lead the company, ensuring the brand's identity and commitment to craftsmanship remain unchanged.
'This isn't about change—it's about strengthening what makes us special,' said Murray. He emphasised the brand's dedication to design innovation, craftsmanship, and sustainability, values shared by the Japanese manufacturer. Masayuki Nakamura, Representative Director, President, and CEO of Okamura, described the partnership as a "perfect synergy," combining workplace transformation expertise with ergonomic solutions and a global reach.
Boss Design will continue operating as an independent brand, maintaining its leadership and design philosophy. Murray stated, 'This is an evolution, not a revolution,' highlighting plans to expand globally, invest in innovation, and enhance customer value with the support of the new parent company.
