A new toilet has been developed using waste water from air conditioning units, offering a potential breakthrough in water conservation.
The product, designed to use grey condensate water for flushing, has been launched by eco-cistem, a company formed from The Green Futures Initiative Ltd. It features a patented 18-litre twin-chamber system that stores up to 12 litres of condensate water, prioritising its use over fresh water.
According to the company, the cistern has already been installed in hotels and office buildings, delivering significant water savings. It has received WRAS approval, passed the AB Air Gap test, and qualifies for BREEAM points.
Paul Crossley, former managing director of shower tray manufacturer JT, was appointed as managing director in 2023 to refine the product and oversee manufacturing. He stated that the cistern was originally developed as a sustainable solution for a client before evolving into a standalone business.
With production now complete, the product is in stock and ready for distribution.
