Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray has launched a furniture collection in collaboration with the Philippine brand Genteelhome. The collection, named "Payak" (meaning "simple" in Filipino), was unveiled during a press conference at the brand's Podium branch in Ortigas Center.
The collection comprises five pieces: the Mayon Lounge Chair, the Pinay Accent Chair, the Balik Tanaw Side Table, the Beh and She Side Tables, and the Kapit-Bisig Shelf. The items are crafted from teak wood and include ropes made of lampakanay (cattail) and outdoor-grade fabric, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
The Mayon Lounge Chair, inspired by the Mayon Volcano, features a pink and orange colour scheme that mirrors lava flow. The Pinay Accent Chair takes inspiration from the traditional baro't saya dress, while the Balik Tanaw Side Table reflects the concept of framing, drawing from the inabel fabric given to Gray by National Living Treasure Magdalena Gamayo.
The Beh and She Side Tables incorporate bangle-like elements, referencing the bangles worn by the T'boli people. Meanwhile, the Kapit-Bisig Shelf highlights coloured abaca weaving, paying homage to generations of Filipina weavers.
Gray, who previously designed the jewellery worn during her Miss Universe win, described the collection as an expression of "slow living" and intentional design. She aims to create pieces that help users feel relaxed and authentic at home.
A portion of the proceeds from the collection will go to Gray's chosen charities, as she emphasised the importance of giving back. She also expressed pride in the craftsmanship of Capampangans, who handcraft each piece.
