A new furniture store is set to open its doors in St Helens, taking over a former Wilko premises on Baldwin Street. The store will officially open on 26 April 2025, following a significant refurbishment.
The new location will be the third store for Joseph James Furniture Outlet, which already operates in Stretford and Stockport. The company's business model focuses on selling branded clearance furniture, including sofas, beds, mattresses, and dining furniture.
The new store, spanning 30,000 square feet, will accommodate the extensive range of products that Joseph James is known for. At any given time, the showroom will display around 300 sofas, 50 chairs, 50 beds, 65 mattresses, 50 dining tables, and 50 sets of dining chairs. All items will be available for immediate free delivery and will be sold at prices approximately 30-70% lower than their retail value.
A company spokesperson stated that the large retail space at the former Wilko site is ideal for housing the vast selection of discounted furniture. The expansion is seen as a way to 'breathe life into large retail stores on the British high street.'
