Exclusive interview with Tom Rossau about their participation in Salone del Mobile

'This edition is particularly exciting for us, and we can’t wait to be there'

Tom Rossau was born in Odsherred, Denmark, a region famous for its curvaceous landscape and the light on the north-western coastline, which has attracted artists for centuries. The sculptural qualities of his native soil are part of his DNA and resonate in his design philosophy. Next week, they will be participating in the Salone del Mobile during Milan Design Week. We spoke with Tom about what visitors can expect, what they will showcase, and what their expectations are from the fair.

Tom Rossau.

What inspired you to participate in Salone del Mobile this year?
'After a few years away, we were thrilled to return to Salone del Mobile with a brand-new exhibition at Euroluce (Pavilion 6, Stand A40). The fair's vibrant energy and international reach make it an incredibly inspiring experience, both creatively and from a business perspective. We really wanted to be a part of it this year, and we can't wait to be there.'

What can visitors expect from your stand?
'We'll be showcasing our core collection, including the beloved Tom Rossau classics, alongside exciting new lamp models set for release in 2025. Among them is the TR4 anniversary lamp, launched in November to celebrate our 20th anniversary. The TR4, one of our earliest designs, has been reimagined with two decades of craftsmanship and experience. We're also unveiling the TR43, a brand-new wall light, along with the TR5 Mini, a compact version of one of our best-selling pendant lights. With most of our Copenhagen team present at the stand, visitors will get a comprehensive insight into our brand and craftsmanship.'

Are there any special installations or new collections to see?
'Alongside unveiling new models and showcasing our TR classics, we're bringing a piece of our Copenhagen workshop to Milan. What truly sets us apart is that every lamp is designed and handcrafted in our Copenhagen workshop, something rare in today's industry. We wanted to bring that spirit to Milan because the most inspiring feedback always comes from those who visit our atelier and witness the craftsmanship firsthand.

At the fair, we'll be exhibiting bespoke, large-scale lamps created for special projects, showcasing our expertise in handcrafted lighting. By demonstrating our flexible and agile production process, we aim to highlight the vast possibilities for custom lighting solutions and the contract market.'

How does Salone del Mobile compare to other design fairs you've participated in?
'Salone del Mobile remains one of the world's most prestigious international furniture fairs and a highlight of our year. While every fair has its own character, there's something truly special about the Milan edition. It's a rich history, combined with the city's undeniable creative energy, makes it a one-of-a-kind experience. It continues to be one of the most influential furniture fairs globally, and you can feel its significance the moment you arrive.'

What are your expectations for the fair?
'This edition is particularly exciting for us. Since appointing our new CEO in August 2024, we've significantly expanded our sales and agents teams. This will be our first time attending the fair with such a strong presence, and we can't wait to see the impact.

Looking back on your journey from your first lamp in 2004 to now, what has been the biggest challenge or breakthrough?
'Our journey has been one of continuous exploration, resulting in a diverse collection of lighting designs. Some of our earliest models, like the TR5 and the TR7 lamp, remain bestsellers to this day. A highlighted project we're especially proud of is our bespoke lighting for the Copenhagen Opera. And there are many exciting projects on the way, we look forward to unveiling soon.'

Do you have any other plans for this year?
Yes, we'll be attending Trends & Tradition, the dynamic one-day fair in Copenhagen where the entire interior design industry comes together. We're also deep in preparations for 3Days of Design in June, where we'll be launching an exciting new project. We can't share the details just yet, but stay tuned!'

Anything else you'd like to share?
'We're simply looking forward to connecting with people at Euroluce, engaging with the industry, sharing our work, and receiving real-time feedback on our collection. We hope to see you there!'
