Leekes has reopened its Llantrisant store following a fire that broke out in two outbuildings behind the main premises. The incident occurred early on Friday, 4 April, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
The fire, reported around 2:30am near Talbot Green in Rhondda Cynon Taf, led to the deployment of approximately 60 firefighters and multiple support units. Crews from several South Wales towns worked to contain the blaze, which was brought under control by 5am.
According to a company statement, "the fire was brought under control quickly before it spread to the main store," thanks to the "excellent" efforts of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. The main retail space was largely unaffected, though some water clearance work was necessary before reopening.
Leekes confirmed the store was ready to welcome customers again by midday the same day. The company expressed gratitude to the emergency services and praised its staff for their swift response in ensuring the store could safely resume operations.
'We feel incredibly lucky that the situation was so well managed,' Leekes stated. 'We look forward to welcoming back our customers.'
A joint investigation by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and South Wales Police is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
