New market entry confirmed as JYSK expands to Africa

JYSK, Scandinavian home furnishings retailer, is set to launch in Africa for the first time, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy.

On 10 April 2025, the company will open its first two physical stores in Casablanca, Morocco, along with an online store. This move brings its presence to a total of 50 countries worldwide.

The new stores will be located at Viva Park and Aeria Mall, situated on opposite sides of the city. The retailer has also established a local office in Casablanca and plans to launch a "Dark Store" to support online operations and full product range availability.

The company's CEO, Rami Jensen, described the expansion as "part of our DNA", adding: 'We are excited to introduce our brand to customers in Morocco and curious about how we will be received on the new continent.'

By the end of 2025, the number of physical locations in Morocco is expected to increase to three. The retailer will operate directly in the country, in line with 29 of the 50 markets where it manages stores without franchising.

Although stores have yet to open, interest in the new market is already high. Over 5,000 applications were submitted for approximately 50 positions created in Morocco.

The most recent country entered before this move was Turkey in 2023, continuing the chain's consistent international growth since the opening of its first store in Denmark in 1979.
