Growth momentum continues as UK flooring distributor sales rise in first quarter

A UK-based flooring distributor has reported a strong start to 2025, building on sustained growth in the latter part of the previous year.

Likewise Group plc saw total gross sales revenue increase by 10.7% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2024. Sales within its branded businesses rose by 14.6%, continuing the positive trajectory seen in Q4 2024 when group sales grew by 10.2%.

The company attributed this momentum to strategic investments made in recent years to strengthen its logistics infrastructure and support wider sales and marketing efforts. These developments are set to continue throughout 2025.

Among upcoming operational enhancements, a newly acquired freehold logistics facility in Plymouth is set to become operational in May. The group is also expanding cutting capacity at its Glasgow Distribution Hub during April to handle increasing volumes. Additionally, planning is under way to extend its Newport site, with completion expected to significantly boost processing and cutting capacity from early 2026.

'There are many initiatives through both Likewise and Valley to meaningfully accelerate the Group's presence and subsequently continue to gain market share,' the company stated, highlighting a focus on Point of Sale displays and new product launches.

Despite a traditionally slower trading period in January and February, the group said March and the months ahead are expected to benefit from the operational gearing effect, setting the stage for increased profitability in line with market forecasts.

Chief Executive Tony Brewer said the performance in Q1 was "really encouraging" and reinforced the board's confidence in meeting 2025 objectives while progressing towards longer-term goals. He thanked employees, suppliers, and customers for their continued support on what he described as an "exciting journey".
