Two teenage boys from Hackney, aged 14 and 16, have been charged with criminal damage with intent to endanger life following a dangerous incident at Westfield shopping centre in Stratford, east London.
The charges relate to an event that took place on 1 March, when furniture was reportedly thrown from the top level of the shopping centre. Video footage of the incident, which later circulated online, appeared to show a person hurling a large padded seat over a glass barrier. The chair fell two storeys and narrowly missed bystanders below.
The teenagers were arrested after the video gained attention online and sparked public concern. Due to their age, their identities have not been made public.
The pair is scheduled to appear before Stratford Youth Court on 6 May.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charges and the court date, but have not released further details at this stage.
