Union AVV files for bankruptcy for CASA Netherlands: 'End to this ordeal'

On Tuesday, April 8, the AVV union, together with the works council of CASA Netherlands, filed for bankruptcy of the Dutch branch of the home goods retail chain with the court. The employees have lost confidence in the company's future.

CASA Netherlands has not paid the March salaries, despite repeated promises from management. 'Employees are facing financial difficulties,' reports AVV. 'In addition, other bills have also been outstanding for some time.'

Since the bankruptcy of the Belgian parent company in early March, there has been a lack of adequate management. AVV: 'We want to put an end to this ordeal quickly.'

CASA Netherlands operates eighteen stores and employs approximately 115 workers. Over a week ago, a joint wage claim action was initiated by the employees, supported by AVV. The bankruptcy filing is now the next step.

Impact of Belgian bankruptcy felt in the Netherlands
In early March 2025, CASA International, the parent company of CASA Netherlands, filed for bankruptcy. As a result, 63 stores closed in Belgium, along with the headquarters and distribution centre in Olen. More than 540 jobs were lost. The Belgian curator expressed openness to a restart, but concrete solutions have been lacking so far.

Although CASA Netherlands is a separate entity, the Belgian bankruptcy immediately led to uncertainty among the Dutch staff. While awaiting developments, the stores remained open, but without management and without payment of wages.

The chance of a restart in the Netherlands now seems lost. With the bankruptcy application by AVV and the works council, the continued existence of CASA Netherlands is in jeopardy.

All CASA websites are now offline.
