British-Turkish design studio Uma returns to Milan Design Week 2025, presenting its acclaimed T4 sofa system by Holloway Li and launching the highly anticipated Phantom side table in collaboration with Epicene. Both collections will be showcased at Capsule Plaza's Satellite Venue 2, housed within the Modes showroom at Piazza Risorgimento 8.
Under the conceptual theme "Live Forever", founder Steph Gallia explores the idea of the "forever home"—a commitment to objects designed to last, to be repaired, cherished, and passed down. 'Our theme of Live Forever taps into society's current obsession with 'forever young', but we reframe that narrative with a sense of optimism that reflects our brand's values,' said Gallia. 'While the durability of our materials naturally conveys longevity, our core message is about fostering a culture where objects are kept for life, challenging the throwaway mindset of modern consumerism. Our close collaboration with Epicene is a testament to this philosophy— the result of countless conversations over the years, and an attitude focused on designing objects that stand the test of time.'
The T4 sofa, exhibited in new colourways including Pear Green, Cotton Candy, and Liquorice Black, forms the centrepiece of the Capsule lounge. Paired with the debuting Phantom side table, the setting reflects Uma's vision for thoughtful, joyful living environments.
Phantom is a sculptural, high-performance table made from epoxy resin and aluminium, developed with cutting-edge jewellery and homeware brand Epicene, led by Burak Koçak. Koçak employs topology optimisation, a design process used in aerospace and automotive engineering, to remove all superfluous mass while maintaining structural strength. 'Rooted in the logic of nature, forms developed for efficiency often strike beauty,' he explains. 'This pursuit of balance, where nothing is wasted yet nothing is missing, results in objects that feel both inevitable and intentional.'
Phantom features CNC-cut aluminium legs, a semi-opaque epoxy resin top available in Clear Mist, Amber Haze, and Pink Sky, and is finished with precision-machined steel glides. The material transparency highlights the interplay of what's present and what's been removed, elevating both the aesthetic and engineering narrative of the piece.
Founded in Izmir and powered by over 35 years of automotive expertise at the Polkima Moulded Composites factory, Uma fuses industrial innovation with contemporary craftsmanship. The brand has built a reputation for producing enduring, emotionally resonant objects through close collaborations with visionary designers.
