Longstanding Cumbria furniture retailer store to shut after 80 years

A family-run furniture retailer is set to close one of its two locations, marking the end of nearly eight decades of trading at the site. A £675,000 closing down sale has been launched, with plans to sell the property once the sale is complete.

The decision comes amid mounting economic pressures and intensified online competition, which have made continued operation of the store unsustainable. Despite the closure, the retailer's second site will remain open and continue trading as normal.

Vaseys, based in Cumbria, announced the closure of its Penrith store located on Great Dockray, while confirming that its Carlisle store on Lancaster Street is unaffected. In a message shared on social media, the business expressed gratitude to its customers, stating: 'A heartfelt thank you to all our loyal customers in Penrith and beyond – your support over the years has meant the world to us.'
