Swedish design publisher Design House Stockholm has unveiled its latest creation – the Mellow Clock by British designer Joe Parr, in a continuation of its celebrated philosophy of "Fantasy & Function." This unveiling aligns with the start of British Summer Time, offering a symbolic blend of artistic expression and functional design.
Aria Table (Dogg Guomundsottir, 2022).
With nearly thirty years of supporting visionary designers, Design House Stockholm has built a reputation for transforming everyday objects into emotionally engaging, practical artworks. 'Fantasy is not just an indulgence, but an indispensable artistic ingredient in the design process,' the company states. By merging imaginative expression with practical demands such as material innovation and ergonomics, the brand elevates design from the ordinary to the exceptional.
Founder Anders Färdig describes the new launch as, 'fantasy and function in one superb object.' The Mellow Clock, made from high-gloss lacquered aluminium, reimagines traditional timekeeping with a sculptural, organic design. Free of numerals and featuring a silent pendulum, the clock encourages a poetic interaction with time. It is available in red and blue, standing at 48.5 cm tall and 21 cm wide, an artful presence suited to any interior.
The brand's approach is deeply rooted in collaboration, with over sixty designers contributing to a collection that challenges conventional definitions of form and function. Each product is both narrative-driven and emotionally resonant. 'These designs are as symbolic and poetic as they are functional, with that unexpected element of surprise that sets good design apart from bad,' says Design House Stockholm.
Alongside the Mellow Clock, several other pieces from the Fantasy & Function collection continue to showcase the brand's ethos:
- Aria Table (Dogg Guomundsottir, 2022): A lightweight oak table with a seemingly floating circular top, offering both elegance and practicality.
- Step Stepladder (Karl Malmvall, 2009): A beautifully designed stepladder now available in light and dark oak, created to be displayed rather than hidden.
- Knot Cushion Pouf XL (Ragnheiður Ösp Sigurðardóttir, 2021): A playful, sculptural seat inspired by childhood craft, blending comfort and whimsy.
- Pedestal Table (Matti Klenell, 2023): A versatile table in various sizes and colours, balancing beauty and functionality across home settings.
- Luna Lighting (Alexander Lervik, 2018): A glowing sphere designed to mimic the full moon, available in opaque and clear finishes in multiple sizes.
- Flip Table (Jesper Ståhl, 2019): A multifunctional piece that transforms from a desk to a dining table or sideboard, ideal for dynamic living.

Design House Stockholm continues to challenge the boundaries of design by placing equal emphasis on imagination and purpose. 'Without fantasy to guide the creative process, we would be left with uninspired creations,' the company explains. Their work continues to redefine how design can bring calm, beauty, and meaning into our daily lives.
