From Cedar to sculpture: Riva1920 unveils new bench collection

Riva1920 has unveiled its latest creation: an exclusive collection of solid wood benches, crafted from cedar of Lebanon. The launch offers a first look at designs that embody the company's fusion of craftsmanship and contemporary creativity, presented as part of its Design Awards Collection.

The company describes the process as: "The idea becomes an object. The Cedar of Lebanon becomes Design." Each bench is carved from a single block of cedar, highlighting both the strength and the natural beauty of the material. Characterised by fluid, essential shapes, the benches are designed to interact naturally with the spaces they inhabit.

According to Riva1920, the collection "came to life from the 9th Design Awards 'Light up your Idea', the international competition that Riva1920 dedicated to the design of outdoor benches." The initiative invited designers from across the globe to interpret cedar with "creativity and respect, enhancing its aesthetic and functional qualities." The company notes that cedar is "a noble wood, perfect for outdoor use thanks to its extraordinary resistance to humidity and atmospheric agents."

Following the awards ceremony at the ADI Design Museum in Milan, which recognised ten projects dedicated to outdoor tables and benches, Riva1920 has announced the next edition of its competition. The 10th Design Awards – Light up your Idea – is now officially open. This time, the focus will be on solid wood storage furniture, with an emphasis on merging functionality, sustainability and aesthetics with the brand's hallmark craftsmanship. Archiproducts will once again serve as Media Partner.

Visitors are invited to discover the new benches and the world of Riva1920 firsthand. The company promises "an immersive journey to see, touch, and experience the authenticity that makes our products truly unique." The experience includes visits to the production sites, the Riva Center, the Museum of Wood and the Pangea Lab, all located in Cantù (CO), Italy.

Riva1920 positions the new collection as a celebration of both material and design, transforming the scented cedar of Lebanon into sculptural pieces for outdoor living.
