At this year's London Design Festival (13–21 September 2025), acclaimed design studio AB Concept presents the Ami Collection, a series of handcrafted rugs created in collaboration with luxury carpet manufacturer Tai Ping. The collection is on display at Tai Ping's Fulham Road showroom in London.

The Ami Collection is rooted in a personal story from AB Concept co-founders Ed Ng and Terence Ngan, who drew inspiration from their mountain retreat, Itsu Sho Sha, in the Karuizawa forest of Japan. The first prototype, a generously scaled, cable-knit inspired rug for their country home, evolved into a full collection that blends memory, materiality, and craftsmanship.
Featuring six rug designs in oval, round, and rectangular formats, the collection reinterprets the familiar cable-knit motif through clean geometries, natural wool, and autumnal tones such as burnt orange, mustard, and sage. Each piece is enriched by artisanal details including hand embroidery, crochet, and sculptural pile variations that give the rugs a contemporary, three-dimensional quality.
"Knitting has always represented warmth and care to me, tied to memories of my grandmother. With Ami, we wanted to create rugs that embody that same emotional connection—luxurious yet grounded, sustainable, and timeless," says Ed Ng, co-founder of AB Concept.
The name Ami derives from the Japanese word for "weave," reflecting the meditative nature of handcraft and the designers' exploration of tradition and emotional memory.
Highlights from the collection include:
- An (安): a burnt orange rectangular rug with refined hand-embroidery.
- Ikoi (憩): a sculptural piece evoking harmony and calm.
- Kara (空): a neutral-toned rug with rich cut-and-loop texturing.
- Wa (和): a grey runner inspired by knitted interlace.
- Sei (静): a contemplative design expressing stillness.
- Iyashi (療): a sage green hand-embroidered rug embodying healing.
With Ami, AB Concept and Tai Ping celebrate a dialogue between design, craft, and cultural memory, offering rugs that transcend function to become contemporary design statements.
The collection is available to view at the Tai Ping Showroom, 117–119 Fulham Road, London SW3 6RL throughout the London Design Festival.
