COR reinvents Mell Bench: versatility meets design at Interior Days 2025

At Interior Days [OWL] 2025, COR is unveiling a major evolution of its popular Mell upholstered bench, first introduced in 2017 by Stuttgart-based design duo Jehs+Laub. The update transforms the piece into a versatile seating system, expanding its role from private living spaces into the contract furniture sector.

"The Mell bench ideally meets those requirements," explained Jehs+Laub, referring to modern needs for adaptable, space-efficient seating. "Space is always precious. These days, families and teams prefer comfortable seating furniture that blends perfectly with contemporary architecture."

The new modular elements allow the Mell bench to adapt to a wide variety of environments. Configurations include "S" shapes, circles, semicircles, and infinitely extended linear benches. Designers can combine high or low backrests, armrests, or opt for none at all, creating bespoke seating landscapes tailored to homes, offices, waiting areas, canteens, schools, and conference spaces.

Externally, the Mell maintains its clear lines with defined edges, a straight back, and a wide felled seam. Internally, it offers inviting comfort with rounded back cushions and separate seat padding. Its chrome-plated or lacquered tubular steel frame, with softly curved angles, reinforces the clean design language. The overall impression is a balance of timeless elegance and sofa-like comfort.

Practical new features enhance the bench's utility for professional and communal settings. Options include overhang elements, storage shelves, integrated Mell bistro tables, under-seat sockets, and magnetic cable routing—making it as suited to work and learning as it is to leisure.

"Sitting together as a group creates a sense of togetherness – whether you're with your team, family or friends. It's a central element of our social fabric that is perhaps more important today than ever before. That's why the evolution of the Mell bench was the logical decision to take," said Leo Lübke, Managing Partner at COR.

Founded in 1954 and still family-run, COR manufactures its furniture exclusively in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Germany. Known for quality craftsmanship and eco-certified production, the company has been carbon neutral since 2020. Its collaborations with leading designers such as Jehs+Laub, Uwe Fischer, and Jörg Boner, have consistently produced enduring modern classics, including the iconic Conseta sofa.

The new Mell bench will be on view at COR Haus in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, 21–25 September 2025, during Interior Days [OWL].
