President Donald Trump's announcement of a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture is expected to extend the impact well into next year. Nearly half of survey participants (47%) believe tariffs will have a lasting effect on pricing.
Consumers are split on how to respond: 22% plan to accelerate purchases before prices rise, 30% are holding off, 25% are widening their retailer search, while 23% say tariffs won't change their buying decisions. Baby Boomers were most likely to delay purchases, while Millennials felt the strongest impact overall.
The survey also highlighted a shift towards U.S.-made products. Some 71% expressed greater interest in domestically produced upholstery, led by Gen Z at 85%. Industry analysts note this trend could benefit American manufacturers but may not fully offset higher costs.
The poll covered 1,018 adults planning to buy sofas, chairs or sectionals in the coming year.
