IKEA expands global reach and accessibility

Ingka Group has reported IKEA retail sales of EUR 39 billion for the 2025 financial year, with a 1.6% increase in quantities sold and store and online visits rising by 1.3% and 4.6% respectively. Despite this growth, overall sales decreased by 1.6% compared to FY24 due to IKEA's continued focus on keeping prices low.

"In the past year we managed the challenges and led with opportunities, always guided by our vision of creating a better everyday life for the many people. We sold more to more customers, mainly driven by lowering prices in past year. We have made a promise to always side with the many people and support with fulfilling the dreams and needs in life at home. I'm proud of how the IKEA community has navigated the last year and we see a good momentum in the current year," said Jesper Brodin, CEO, Ingka Group.

IKEA invested in accessibility with 54 new locations globally, including flagship stores on London's Oxford Street, Delhi in India, and a major mixed-use site in downtown Shanghai. The retailer is also piloting a smaller store format in towns across the UK, US, and Poland, designed for quicker, simpler shopping while offering thousands of home furnishing products and planning services.

"Our city centre stores have been a success in making IKEA more accessible to the many people and we are now aiming to add another component to them. A smaller retail format that will allow us to open the doors in just a few weeks and thus expand faster with many more IKEA locations in the near future," said Tolga Öncü, Ingka Retail Manager (COO).

Existing stores were revamped into e-commerce hubs, with Budapest's Soroksar store doubling logistics capacities to manage all online deliveries across Hungary. Digital tools, including pickup and demand-sensing systems, helped maintain record-high customer satisfaction.

Ingka Group remains committed to sustainability, aiming to cut absolute greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2030 and 90% by 2050. Since 2016, the company has grown 23.7% while reducing its carbon footprint by 30.1%. Ingka has invested over EUR 4.2 billion of a planned EUR 7.5 billion to accelerate the transition to renewable energy.

Across all IKEA franchisees, total retail sales reached EUR 44.5 billion, with Ingka Group representing 87% of this total.

"As we continue to grow, the fast-changing retail environment will require that we are constantly evolving to meet the new needs of our customers. By staying curious, adaptable, and focused on building a better IKEA, we can continue to shape a business that's not only financially strong, but also relevant for generations to come," added Brodin.

Ingka Group operates IKEA retail in 31 markets and remains committed to its vision of creating a better everyday life for the many people, expanding accessibility, affordability, and sustainability worldwide.
