Design District 2024

Design District took place as usual in the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam. This factory was once the most modern factory in the Netherlands and is considered the most important industrial monument in the Netherlands.

From Wednesday, May 29 to Friday, May 31, the doors of the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam were open to visitors and exhibitors of the Design District fair, the annual trade event for interior design. Here, interior professionals could spot the latest collections, network, and gain inspiration.

Artist and designer Bert Vredegoor from Schutspatroon, which showcased a new concept in window film. "A Schutspatroon is a functional and decorative window ornament that fits in all respects. Therefore, each assignment requires a different approach, and each design has its own story."

Juliette Wesseling of the eponymous design studio based in Amsterdam. She transforms discarded and used building materials into decorative lighting.

Yoeri Nagtegaal from outil.li, which presented a new series of lamps with wireless control. "We use small-scale, digital production methods, recycled and reusable materials, and produce and design everything in-house."

As a designing furniture maker, Chris Ruhe has had a fondness for springy stools for years. "And now I've managed to make one with a backrest. Rough. This design springs and moves with you, which ensures an active and healthier way of sitting."

Designer Rik van Mierlo from SOFT Steel presents new pendant lights, made of metal. "The technique is central."

Rik had also brought new reading lamps to Rotterdam. All models are designed according to the principle of expanded metal, where flat sheets or tubes are stretched into 3D shapes.

Aaron van Bindsbergen from nora.nora poses with the new chair collection, which he himself calls archetypal design for pragmatic sustainability. The noranora collection is inspired in design and comfort by the function of the product and makes a statement with it.

Jan van 't Hof and Naomi Remijn from the studio of the same name, which showed acoustic, handmade panels inspired by Zeeland traditional costumes.

Sarah Trenité from Arp Design showed a part of her Optical collection. This collection includes Loupe: a straight table, Eye: an oval table, Pupil: a round table, and finally: the Loupe chair. This chair was recently put into production and was shown in, among other materials, walnut and oak.

Armin Morrison and Gerald Verschuur from Morrison and Verschuur, specialists in the field of functional and creative lighting solutions. At the fair, they showcased the mini-curve-line, which can be used to illuminate the inside of a cabinet.

Aleksandra Gaca designs sustainable woven textiles, textile products, and installations at the intersection of art, design, and architectural form. As a designer of three-dimensional textiles, she presented the 3D Architextiles collection; woven constructions on an architectural scale.

The board members Renate van Veldhoven and Gina Sanders represented the VIIA, an association of and for importers and agents in the interior industry, both nationally and internationally.

Lianne Bongers and Dave Refoeuloe from The Biophilic Design Academy (BDA), an online platform for anyone who wants to know more about biophilic design. Membership in this community provides access to scientific research, blogs, videos, webinars, example projects, sustainable suppliers, events, and a connection with over 60 other biophilic designers.

Ellen Goulmy from the Lighting Design Academy, which pointed out to visitors of the fair a wide range of light education, developed by and for creative and technical lighting professionals. "You can choose from light workshops, light courses, light software training, short and longer light education programs."

Jelle Vanackere, Simon Waelkens, and Sander Mooi from ARLU, which showcased the latest interior and exterior solutions. Such as Divina, glass walls that easily divide spaces without losing light or openness.

A look at the FABRAA booth, which showcased collaborations with various furniture manufacturers. (Yellow) Sofie is a round design armchair that feels at home everywhere. Due to its round shapes, it occupies a modest space, perfect for, for example, a hotel room or an entrance.

Marie-Neeltje van Weerelt from Tarkett with the acoustic collection Baux. At Design District, the collaboration between Baux and Tarkett was presented. With the Baux Acoustic Wood Wool Panels and the Desso AirMaster® floor technology, the acoustics are optimized and the indoor air quality is improved.

Puik is a design brand from Amsterdam with a line of furniture and accessories, designed by the new generation of Dutch designers.

Pfleiderer is known for its robust plastic sheets, melamine-faced chipboard, and much more.

At the GoEs booth, which is an ancient Greek word for magic, ... and agent Jacqueline Smit could be found. In total, four new items were launched, including this table.

The furniture of GoEs is made in a factory with an extensive wood processing tradition, for creators with new perspectives on progressive design.

The other brand that PUURkleur carries is Giorgio Graesan: creative paints and stuccos.

The colorful furniture from Petite Friture is available in more than 70 countries. Over the years, the furniture company has collaborated with more than 60 international designers.

Patrick Hofland and Robert-Jan Lubbers from Hardbrass. They are, among other things, agents of the Italian dnd.

Crisalide is the latest door hardware from dnd.

Werner Draad was present on behalf of Elements Amsterdam. He showed a modular cabinet with a smart locker system.

At the Finsa booth, among others, Ivo Smit, William Wondergem, and Lennert Sieling could be found. Together with their premium partner Maiburg, they showcased the newest additions: Bio MDF and the Studio Collection.

On behalf of the Belgian outdoor furniture manufacturer Wünder, Frederik Vanpevenaeyge and Arthur Nevejan were present.

In addition to Anders Abelin and Herman de Rooij, the new designs from Lintex are on display. The Swedish company designs design 'writing services'.

Acoustics is the specialty of Still Design. The company conceives, designs, develops, and produces acoustic solutions in-house for various work environments.

Lartura designs iconic lamps for modern private and business interiors.

Kvadrat was founded in 1968 in Denmark and is deeply rooted in the Scandinavian design tradition. Kvadrat has claimed a position in the European textile market.

The designs of Bas Vellekoop represent pure Dutch design, such as the new Square table that can be seen in the corner of the booth.
